Citroen's crossover, the C5 Aircross carefully maintains everything that made it good, and gently touches the points it needed to stay up to date. When in Israel?

The revolution he made, now only needed polishing

Sometimes it's better not to touch something that is very good anyway, just leave it as it is.

Citroen did not hold back and transferred the C5 Aircross treatment.

it worked?

Citroen C5 Aircross 2022 (Manufacturer)

The Citroen C5 Aircross is Citroen's avant-garde response to Jeep fashion in the C-SUV category saturated with aggressive competitors at home and abroad.

It was first introduced in China as a concept car as early as 2015, and in 2017 began to be sold in the Chinese market.

A year later marketing began in the European market with very few design changes from the same original concept vehicle.

Citroen reports about 325,000 units sold worldwide, of which about 245,000 in Europe.

In Israel, the C5 Aircross began to be sold in 2019 in diesel and petrol versions, and in 2021 a plug-in hybrid version was also added.

In total, Citroen sold about 3,700 units of the model in Israel, mainly with diesel engines (about 2,600 units) and over 1,000 gasoline-powered units, and a small number of PHEV (plug-in hybrid) versions.

Forecasts for a decline in the C-SUV segment due to the transition to electric vehicles or smaller vehicles are currently not coming true, and the segment continues to grow.

In order to remain competitive it is time for a refresh / renewal / facelift for the C5 Aircross.

Citroen people had clear advantages of the model - high comfort and unrivaled family usability, so it was clear that the advantages had to be preserved on the one hand, the design refreshed while maintaining the model identity, and taking the C5 Aircross to the next stage in model life.

The updated version gets a "dynamic and energetic" front end in the Citroen language, with a front with a unique light signature, recessed and slightly hidden headlights, and a three-dimensional front grille that looks wonderful from the side.

On the hood on both sides were added 'sockets' that are slightly reminiscent of the same rectangular / rounded geometric shape familiar from today's Citroen.

The result is an interesting and quite handsome hood.

Even from the side, there is no doubt that this is the new C5 Aircross with the same familiar contours with 18 '' tires.

At the rear the look is almost identical with design changes in the rear lighting units integrated LED to create a three-dimensional effect.

The changes did not miss the interior of the vehicle, and it was redesigned with a 10-inch screen, controls for some of the functions and a wide, low center console.

The gear lever (wonderful in itself) was replaced by a gear selector in the form of a recessed switch.

The front seats have remained the most comfortable there is, and of course Citroen has not given up on three separate rear seats.

The C5 Aircross was launched for communication in two versions - a plug-in hybrid with a 180 hp petrol engine and a combined power of 225 hp, a 13.2Kwh battery that provides a driving range of about 55 km using only electricity, and up to a speed of 135 km / h .

Another version launched is with a 1.2-liter Fiortech gasoline engine that produces 130 hp and an eight-speed planetary gearbox. In Israel, the model will also be marketed with an economical diesel version.

Citroen places emphasis on economical and green driving , Whether using gift vouchers for free public charging, or train tickets - innovative and interesting.

Driving in both versions of the model produces a clear distinction between them.

The PHEV brings the driver a very high level of comfort, and the combination of the quality seat results in a pleasant and fairly quiet ride, also thanks to excellent noise insulation.

This version with 225 hp and about 33 kg accelerates with determination and has the power that should be enough for anyone who chooses it.

Even in aggressive driving it has remained fairly stable, with surprisingly good roll angles.

After driving this version, it is a bit unfair to test the 1.2 turbo 130 hp version. First, it has almost 100 hp less, the noise insulation is slightly less good than in the PHEV and the three-cylinder engine is more present in the ride.

The exit is agile and will suffice for most drivers, however the intermediate accelerations are a bit hesitant, at least until the gearbox-engine combination realizes that it's time to deliver all the produce here and now.

Notwithstanding the above, this version will satisfy most of the model voters.

This version also has more noticeable roll angles than the PHEV model.

The summary is simple.

Citroen had a unique vehicle with high quality, and the difficult task was to make it better.

They succeeded.

Prices are not yet available at this stage, but due to the fact that this is a refinement and not a makeover of the model, it can be estimated that the gasoline version will be sold in the price range of the diesel version, with a fluctuation of several thousand shekels here or here from 160,000 shekels.

The highly sought-after version of PHEV in Europe will also be sold, in my estimation, in the same price range as the existing one, ie at about NIS 225,000.

Before you run to the nearest showroom to order one of these, the expectation is for marketing in the country in the last quarter of the year.

The bottom line is that this is a medium-sized crossover that has been and remains excellent and retains its traditional benefits of character and presence.

The success of the marketing depends on the pricing of the model and the allocations to the Israeli market.
