A 28-year-old died following a knife attack which also left one injured on Monday in a district on the outskirts of the center of Rennes, we learned from a judicial source.
"The facts took place around 6 p.m. in the Maurepas district," Rennes public prosecutor Philippe Astruc told AFP, confirming information from the actu.fr site.
The victim "a young man, born in December 1993 in Kourou (Guyana) and domiciled in Rennes" died "following a knife attack", specifies the prosecutor.
"Another young man born in 1998, also domiciled in Rennes, was injured in the same context," adds Mr. Astruc.
Currently hospitalized, his life is not in danger.
While a magistrate from the Rennes public prosecutor's office visited the site, the prosecutor specified that an investigation for "intentional homicide and attempted intentional homicide" had been entrusted to the DTPJ (territorial direction of judicial protection) of Rennes .
An autopsy was also ordered.
"The circumstances of these facts and their context have not yet been established," said Mr. Astruc.
“The investigation will also have to determine whether or not these criminal acts are linked to other episodes of violence recently observed in the same neighborhood at the end of the week”, adds the prosecutor.
According to Ouest-France, a man had already been wounded with a knife and shots had targeted an apartment in the Maurepas district, on the night of Friday to Saturday.
