The promotion of wall boxes with 900 euros each was a complete success.

Nevertheless, it will not be extended - the federal government is now setting other priorities.

Berlin – Electromobility is booming, also and above all because of various funding programs.

The high number of electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids sold would hardly have been conceivable without the innovation premium, which will probably be significantly reduced next year.

The state subsidy for wall boxes for charging in the home garage was also a complete success: between November 2020 and October 2021, 800,000 households, homeowner associations and property developers collected the investment subsidy of 900 euros for the purchase and installation.

Even some people who do not (yet) have an electric car were happy to take the taxpayer's money.

A total of 900,000 private charging points were created in this way, at a total cost of 800 million euros.

Wall boxes for electric cars: funding is over and will remain so

Some manufacturers of wall boxes (recommended by the ADAC) are still processing orders.

And of course, like many new buyers of electric cars, hoped for an extension or new edition of the support program.

But it is now clear that this will not happen.

Actually, it shouldn't end until the end of this year, but the funding pot, which was replenished several times in the past, has long been empty, and the federal government wants it to remain so.

Wall box for electric cars: Public fast charging stations have priority

This means: whoever has it, has it – anyone who still buys their wall box will definitely get nothing.

At least in Germany.

Similar funding will continue in neighboring Austria for the time being.

In Germany, on the other hand, the Federal Ministry of Transport is primarily focusing on the construction of public charging points.

Fast charging stations will be subsidized with half a billion euros until 2025, and around 50,000 new charging points are to be created in this way.
