Drove into town in the convertible, found a parking space, happy: Don't get cocky and leave the roof open.

Because that can get expensive.

Munich – The sun is shining, the temperatures are rising rapidly: it's convertible time again.

It doesn't necessarily have to be the most expensive new car in the world - these five open-top models show that you can also enjoy the headwind relatively inexpensively.

From the new roadster to the historic bathtub, whether with normal, seasonal or H license plates, the fun-to-drive vehicles can be seen everywhere again.

Driving or parking.

The latter often with the top down.

So better not: When parking you should close the convertible top.

Convertible parked with the roof open: That's why it's not a good idea

This is logical, because open parking has a number of advantages.

Especially with older models, where the top cannot be closed electrically and in some cases can even be closed in a matter of seconds while driving, it often takes a lot of time and effort to fold the top up and stow it away - and to open it again later.

You can also avoid having to climb into a glowing furnace later.

But the convenience is not without danger.

Not only that birds can ruin the leather with their legacies and that some jealous passers-by misuse the convertible as a rubbish bin: An open car represents a financial risk.

Convertible parked with the roof open: theft not necessarily covered

This is especially true if the convertible is parked in a public car park or in an underground car park that is accessible to many people: The insurance group HUK-Coburg-Versicherung points out that the partially comprehensive policy does not cover damage caused by an open roof takes over in full.

This way you can stay a bit at the expense of a jacket that is practically stolen from the back seat in passing.

Even those who only park briefly to run errands should be careful - and never leave objects such as bags or smartphones lying around when the roof is open.

By the way: even while driving, an open roof has its pitfalls - for your health.
