The author Joshua's work has gained widespread recognition in Israel and around the world, and he has won many literary awards - including the Israel Prize for Literature, the Bialik Prize, the Brenner Prize and the Medis Prize for Foreign Writers (for "Spanish Grace").

Several of his works have been adapted into films, including "Three Days and a Child," "The Lover," "The Return from India," and "Mr. Money."

Towards the end of the Second Lebanon War, he attended a press conference with David Grossman and Amos Oz in which he called on the Israeli government to agree to a ceasefire and not to expand the fighting in Lebanon as it subsequently decided.
