Gold bars looted from French shipwreck 40 years ago found in US

Three Frenchmen suspected of having looted a wreck stranded in 1746 off Brittany have recently been indicted. The investigators


At least twice they were lost forever.

The first they finished their race at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean.

That was almost three centuries ago.

On December 3, 1746, the "Prince de Conty", a ship of the French East India Company returning from China, was caught in the mist off Belle-Île (Morbihan).

Near the southern tip of the island, the ship sank in cold Brittany waters, leaving behind dozens of dead sailors and priceless treasures.

Porcelain, tea, silk… and gold bars.
