DeLorean is making a comeback with the Alpha5.

First pictures of the electric car look promising.

The DeLorean car brand had a short lifespan.

Despite this, the manufacturer's sole model - the DeLorean DMC-12 - enjoys cult status thanks to the Back to the Future film series.

After the company was dissolved in the early 80's, an independent company from Texas secured the rights to the DeLorean brand a few years ago.

The manufacturer has now unveiled the first images of the new

DeLorean Alpha5

, with which it wants to revive the DeLorean brand in purely electric form - and the vehicle is quite impressive.

DeLorean Alpha5: Designers of the original DMC-12 were involved

The

DeLorean Alpha5

stays true to the classic DeLorean from the '80s.

The trademark are above all the wing doors that open upwards.

However, the angular look of the original is traded for smoother curves.

In addition, the Alpha5 has four seats instead of two.

For the reissue, DeLorean has once again teamed up with Italdesign, the same design team that helped design the 1981 DMC-12.

Even Marty McFly from "Back to the Future" would have been jealous of the DeLorean Alpha5 - even if the car lacks the time machine.

The Alpha5 will be fitted with a 100kWh battery that will provide a

range of up to 300 miles

(

about 480 kilometers

).

The top speed is 250 km/h and it takes around three seconds to go from zero to 100 km/h.

The car

is scheduled to hit the market in 2024

.

However, the Alpha5 is considered a prestige object and will be

limited to 88 copies

.

After that, however, the company plans to launch further models in series – including a sports coupe and a hydrogen-powered SUV.

We'll have to wait a little longer until we see the Alpha5 in action.

DeLorean is planning a

live presentation of the Alpha5 on August 21st

in California.
