Renovating and merging: Meta wants to make Facebook ticking, sort of
The social network has realized that it is not doing too much to beat the Chinese Tiktok - and is going to make a significant change in the platform.
This means that you will soon see more short videos, and even content from users who are not on your friends list

Meta (formerly Facebook) wants to go back to the sources, and plans to make a dramatic change to Facebook's main app - according to an internal memo published in The Verge and compiled by Tom Allison, Meta's vice president.
Among other things, the social network also plans to reunite Messenger and Facebook into one application.
In fact, according to the document, the platforms of Meta, Facebook and Instagram, which combine Reels (the clone of Meta to Tiktok), are not doing enough to compete on the Chinese social network.
So what's in the plan?
Meta wants to turn Facebook into a "Discovery Engine", similar to Tiktok's For-U.
In the memo Alison details that instead of showing the user posts from accounts he is following - the algorithm will recommend popular custom content so that Facebook users can be exposed to new content even from people they are not following.
And it does not end here, the feed is expected to incorporate many more Reels videos.

As mentioned, another change - which looks more like a failed message - is the decision to merge Messenger and Facebook into one app, as in the beginning when the mailbox logo appears inside the main app.
The goal, according to estimates, is to bring more users to one application in order to get them exposed to more content.
It is currently unknown when the change will take effect, but it is likely that in the near future more and more users will receive new features that will start as an experiment, as with any innovation that comes to the platforms, and then be released to all users.
