She fell for a fraudulent SMS, a so-called smishing attack.
Most people should know by now not to click on links in emails from unknown senders or carelessly open attachments, as doing so could result in criminals crippling their computers or stealing sensitive information.
But phishing scammers are developing ever more sophisticated methods to deceive their victims: fake short messages, voicemails, automatic calls or manipulative emails.
They imitate everyday processes such as logging on to web services or target human weaknesses and characteristics, curiosity or envy, habit or fear.
This insidious principle always finds victims.
Even those who should know better.
