A 650 hp Corvette as a police car?

This is now in the US state of Florida.

But the origin of the car bothers many Facebook users.

Goulding (USA) – First of all, police vehicles have to be practical – and reasonably robust.

Of course, you also need a decent engine, otherwise criminals will have an easy time escaping in the car.

Well, maybe not in every case, as a Citroën Ami with a top speed of 45 km/h in use on a Greek island shows.

However, only very few police fleets have real sports cars in their range - the officers in France, for example, get 26 Alpine A110s.

In Dubai, on the other hand, there are even real super sports cars from Lamborghini and Bugatti in the fleet.

But a sheriff's office in the US state of Florida now has an extraordinarily potent bullet:

Admittedly, it looks pretty cool.

A Facebook video (found below) from the Escambia County Sheriff's Office demonstrates the latest vehicle in the fleet: a Chevrolet Corvette C7 in the sports version Z06, built in 2017. The built-in V8 delivers a whopping 650 hp, and the top speed is around 315 km/h. H.

Above all, the "blue light bar" placed in the grille may remind one or the other of the miracle car KITT from the 1980s TV cult series "Knight Rider".

The "Vette" was also given the appropriate police foiling by the Escambia Sheriff's Office.

"No tax money was used to finance this vehicle," the police wrote on Facebook.

"It was confiscated from a suspect." The wraps and other upgrades were funded by the Escambia County Sheriff Foundation.

Even if it's almost a bit of a shame: the Corvette isn't used to hunt down criminals.

The car is more for representational purposes.

The Corvette basically shares the fate of this chic police Porsche from Techart - which was used as a show car for the "Tune it!

Safe!” was created, which is under the patronage of the Federal Ministry of Transport.

In addition, the sports car is supposed to strengthen the connection between the community and the police authority.

How exactly the community should benefit from the car, some users ask themselves in the comments.

But not only that. In the comments, many more users are surprised about the origin of the Corvette.

Because according to the police, the vehicle only comes from a "suspect" and not from a convicted criminal.

"And what happens if he's not convicted?" wonders one commenter.

"I hope you have the financial means to restore the car to its original condition...or to buy a new one." Some even refer to the police as "thieves" over the Corvette action.
