In Italy, some things are regulated differently in road traffic than in Germany.
Breaking the rules can be quite expensive.
Munich – A vacation usually tears a decent hole in the cash register.
So that you don't have to pay a lot more on the way to your destination, it's worth taking a closer look at the traffic rules of the holiday country before you start.
Because sometimes these differ significantly from the regulations in Germany.
If you are not careful, you can be asked to pay a lot abroad.
Also in Italy some things are different than in this country.
Prohibitions and obligations when driving a car in Italy
In Italy, for example, certain
winter or all-season tires
are no longer permitted in summer.
As the ADAC explains, drivers must compare the speed index on the tires with the index entered in Part 1 of the registration certificate.
The mounted tires must not fall below the
entered speed
index.

Also good to know: On
mountain roads
in Italy, vehicles driving uphill always have the right of
way,
unless there is an alternative nearby.
Buses always have the right of way in Italian traffic.
And private towing is prohibited on the Autobahn.
In addition, dipped headlights (or daytime running lights) must be used all year round on motorways and in rural areas.
In a
roundabout
, the rule in Italy is "right before left" - in contrast to Germany, the entering vehicles have the right of way over the vehicles already in the roundabout.
The following speed limits apply to cars in Italy:
in town | 50km/h |
---|---|
out of town | 90km/h |
expressways | 110km/h |

The
fines
in Italy are tough.
If you are more than 20 km/h too fast, you have to pay at least 175 euros.
If you are caught with more than 50 km/h over the limit, it is at least 545 euros.
Speeding can also be very expensive in other countries.
At least 545 euros are also due if you are caught drunk behind the wheel - the alcohol limit in Italy is 0.5.
An absolute alcohol ban (0.0 per thousand) applies to people who have not had their driving license for three years.
It is also better to avoid the fines for not wearing a seat belt (from 85 euros) and for
using a mobile phone while driving
(from 165 euros).
In addition, there is a ban on smoking in cars in Italy if minors or pregnant women are on board.
Important to know: According to ADAC, fines from Italy can also be enforced in Germany.
And: If you pay within five days, you get a discount of 30 percent.
On the other hand, the amount is doubled if payment is not made within the

period specified in the decision.
