“The arrival of monoclonal antibodies has revolutionized
the management of asthma
, says Professor Cindy Barnig, pulmonologist at the Besançon University Hospital.
We were able to offer solutions to patients who were suffering from both their asthma and the very high doses of corticosteroids essential to support it.”
Extremely expensive, these treatments are however reserved for patients whose disease is severe and not controlled by the usual drugs, or who cannot tolerate them.
If monoclonal antibodies do not cure them, they offer many patients an acceptable quality of life, especially since they are administered by simple injection every two weeks or every month.
"Some patients tell us that they have found a life similar to the one they had before the disease!"
, rejoices Professor Pascal Demoly, head of the pulmonology, allergology and thoracic oncology department at Montpellier University Hospital.
