As the government kicks off a fire prevention campaign, firefighters are sounding the alarm and announcing, on the forest fire side, a summer full of dangers.
The months of May and June were the driest on record – total rainfall of less than 20 mm over a large part of the territory – and the hottest – with an average temperature of 17.8°C, i.e. one degree higher for the month of May than the previous record of 2011. Result: we have recorded record operational activity since the beginning of the year: more than 600 outbreaks of fire in the Mediterranean arc alone.
