Syria: France repatriated 35 children and 16 mothers from the camps

The minors were handed over to the services responsible for child support, the mothers were handed over to the judicial authorities.


They were in camps in northeast Syria.

The Quai d'Orsay announces this Tuesday in a press release that France has repatriated to the national territory 35 French minor children but also 16 mothers.

“The minors have been handed over to the child welfare services and will be subject to medical monitoring.

The mothers have been handed over to the competent judicial authorities”, specifies the Ministry of Foreign Affairs “wishes to thank the local authorities of north-eastern Syria for the cooperation which made this operation possible”.

Unlike other European countries, France maintained a decried policy of returns in dribs and drabs, of children only, while living conditions there are "appalling" according to the UN.
