Interest in e-cars is growing - but according to a study, the goals of the federal government are not being achieved.
Main problem: too few charging stations.
Munich - The path towards e-mobility seems to be clearly drawn - but the realization is currently crunching in the gears.
Although the interest in buying electric cars has increased significantly recently, there are too few public charging stations - especially along the freeways.
And the currently rapidly rising electricity prices should make one or the other who is already flirting with a Stromer start pondering again.
According to a study, the federal government's goal of 15 million electric cars on Germany's roads by 2030 will be missed by a wide margin.

According to a study by the management consultancy PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), Germany is heading for a “massive charging gap” if nothing changes in the rate of expansion of the charging network.
Around 60,400 public charging points were available in Germany in May 2022 – around 330 more are added every week.
According to the experts, this is clearly not enough to achieve the goals by 2030 - they have calculated that instead of 15 million by then, only 10.5 million electric vehicles will be on German roads.

According to the study, at least 340,000 public fast charging points will be needed by 2030 to supply the 10.5 million electric vehicles that will be registered at that time.
But as the PwC experts have also calculated, at the current rate there will only be 210,000 quick charging points available.
And that, although even Tesla has now opened its superchargers for products from other manufacturers.
According to the makers of the study, 15.8 million electric cars would be needed on the roads by 2030 in order to achieve the goals for road traffic agreed in the German Climate Protection Act - but in this case 520,000 public charging points would be necessary.

The study sees the main reasons for the sluggish network expansion in bureaucratic approval procedures, areas withheld from the public sector and coordination problems between those involved in the electromobility ecosystem.
In order to still achieve the climate targets and get more e-cars on the roads, the authors of the study call for a broader product range of e-cars - especially in the entry-level segment - in addition to accelerating the network expansion through "targeted incentive systems".
