Suzuki s Cross also known as the Suzuki Crossover and formerly as the SX4 has been revamped and treated exactly at the critical points. But the price of this version makes it difficult to justify

Suzuki's Cross in the first test: gray and shiny, medium and great

The Suzuki S Cross is not exactly a new model, but has undergone a much-needed upgrade for this not-so-young model.

With a tough appearance he goes out hunting for new customers

Now it looks tough enough to attract more customers (Photo: Keenan Cohen)

Although it has never stood out exceptionally, only when driving an S-Cross do you suddenly notice that there is quite a bit of it on the road.

I mean not exactly from this model, but from its previous incarnations since it was originally introduced in 2013.

Over the years he has changed designs and changed nicknames and has more dangerous institution names.

At one point most of the tags on his trunk door started to look like the uniform of a Soviet veteran from World War II.

Among the nicknames that appeared there were: SX4, crossover, turbo, S-cross and sometimes three of them simultaneously.

Without change in dimensions or propulsion unit the most noticeable exterior difference is the exterior design.

This is not a covetous abode and whoever did not like his previous design will not fall at his feet now.

But it at least equips itself with a front and rear that allow it to be placed more easily in the small-medium crossover segment.

Everything you need to know about writing a resume in 2022

In collaboration with ManpowerGroup

There is no change in size, this is the same lady with a renewed overcoat (Photo: Keinan Cohen)

Thanks to the construction for good headroom height, the console that expands at the top takes up little space for the knees.

Despite the upholstery combined with leather and fabric in the test vehicle, the seats themselves are not the most successful we have encountered and the long driving is noticeable due to the lack of back support.

The quality of the materials is mediocre, the cabin is sloping in stiff plastic despite the flickers of leather-like here and there in the high level of finish.

These together with the analog dashboard (despite the colorful information screen and the many contents within it) betray its age.

On the other hand, when the customers' expectation is not for pampering but for exceptional durability during intensive years of use - this is what should be here.

To the credit of the build quality it will be said that even on a bumpy trail ride there were no chirps or creaks.

Despite the fancy upholstery, the seats show a lack of support in the lower back and it is tiring on long journeys (Photo: Keinan Cohen)

The one that is different in the driver's environment is the multimedia screen, here it comes in a 9-inch size (7-inch in the entry-level version) and with Apple and Android connectivity.

Its operation is dozens of times better than that of the previous system in a local installation, but not as good as some of its competitors.

We did not find the possibility of parting with the "beep" sound with each click on it.

The space in the back was and remains good, but this is more or less - there are no air conditioning ports, USB sockets and even the storage pocket appears here only in the back of the passenger seat.

The trunk with 430 or 440 liters depending on its floor height, has a square structure, efficient and with hanging hooks and a 12V socket.

The significantly improved instrumentation section is that of the safety systems when for automatic braking and cruise control a vehicle alert was added in "dead space", lane departure correction and the senior instrumentation level tested GLXV also has 360 degree cameras that provide an overview of the vehicle environment at the start of travel.

No compartments, no air conditioning outlets, no charging sockets.

At least the space remains excellent (Photo: Keinan Cohen)

The engine of the S Cross remains unchanged, a 1.4-liter turbo with a light electric system that does not propel the vehicle but allows for easy assistance in accelerations and extensions of engine bleeding periods, so that despite the tag it carries, the hybrid really is not.

It has 129 hp, 24 kg and a six-speed gearbox, while in the test version the propulsion is for all four wheels.

The engine operation is round and pleasant, without outbursts of power or unusual thrust, overall suitable for routine and not too demanding uses.

Square and useful, the loading opening is very wide (Photo: Keinan Cohen)

The ride comfort is compromised due to shock absorbers that get along with a wavy road, but do not really filter fractures or potholes in the asphalt.

These are joined by external road noises such as wind and tire noise.

The behavior of the road here is very safe, there is a lot of grip and due to the dual propulsion also a lot of ability to lower power without putting the wheels in front of the dilemma of dividing the grip between turning and lowering power.

So she gets the "safe" compliment for having fun, but she sure isn't "fun".

Steering wheel is too light and devoid of any feedback and tangible roll angles make speeding it something reminiscent of a student in front of an ATM - you never know how much you will pull this time.

He did not excite anyone in the previous design, he does not do it in the present (Photo: Keinan Cohen)

Its dual propulsion allows for impressive off-road capability and also a little beyond the brave and skilled.

Effective traction control and a "locked" position allow it to cross easily or cross over ground with varying grip coefficients.

In fact its main limitation are the tires of the test car and a modest ventral spacing of 17.5 cm. Also the ride control on the slope was an addition I would be happy to see here.

We finished the test days with 12.9 km per liter well given the load and driving conditions and considering With dual propulsion.

Limited ventral spacing requires attention to the path of progress, but the dual propulsion is surprisingly positive (Photo: Keinan Cohen)

With the S Cross, Suzuki did everything they could to produce their Toyota Corolla here.

A car that puts first and foremost the customers' expectation of an efficient and versatile means of transportation.

There is no temptation or promise here for a dizzying or extraordinary experience.

In this respect the crossover is a gray vehicle in terms of its features and components but brilliant in its suitability to customers.

It is mediocre in terms of assemblies, level of refinement and feel in it but great at meeting its definition as an efficient and practical transportation product.

The price of the tested version is NIS 160,000, which is quite a lot for a non-young car, so at this price compared to competitors like the Kia Celtus or Oxide, it has a hard time shining.

For those who do not intend to go down the trails and take advantage of its dual propulsion system, it is better to go for this level of finish with front-wheel drive for 149 thousand shekels.

There you will get the practical package and the efficient and versatile product that is and at a price that better suits its features.
