Just 20 minutes at a fast charging station is usually enough to fill up electric cars with electricity for a usable distance.

These ten go particularly far.

1/10Kia EV6: 309 kilometers.

Thanks to modern 800-volt charging technology, the mid-range SUV from South Korea is clearly at the top.

The version with rear-wheel drive and 77.4 kWh battery was the only model in the test field that broke the 300-kilometer mark.

Base price: 46,990 euros.

2 / 10Mercedes-Benz EQS 450+: 275 kilometers.

The luxury sedan for at least 107,326 euros gets the most out of the 400-volt technology used thanks to precise charging and temperature management.

The long-range version with a 108 kWh battery and rear-wheel drive was tested.

3/10BMW iX: 273 kilometers.

The large electric SUV was tested in the luxury class category as the xDrive50 with all-wheel drive as standard – and with a powerful 105.2 kWh battery.

The base price of the powerful Stromer is 84,600 euros.

4 / 10Hyundai Ioniq 5: 272 kilometers.

The South Korean SUV is technically related to the test winner Kia EV6 and uses the same fast 800-volt technology.

The more economical rear-wheel drive version costs from 43,900 euros, the version with a 72.6 kW battery was tested for an additional 4,000 euros.

5 / 10Porsche Taycan: 271 kilometers.

In the upper class, the test values were relatively close together.

In the GTS version, the electric Porsche (base price 86,733 euros) with a 93.4 kWh battery is only just behind the best in its class, and it can also charge with 800 volts.

6 / 10Audi e-tron GT quattro: 237 kilometers.

The four-door, electric sports car with all-wheel drive is based on the Porsche Taycan and therefore also has fast 800-volt technology and a 93.4-kWh battery, but is slightly larger and more spacious.

Price: from 104,000 euros.

7/10BMW i4: 235 kilometers.

The electric version of the conventionally powered 4 Series is the sportiest model in the mid-range category.

As the eDrive40, it costs from 59,200 euros and has a battery with a capacity of 83.9 kWh.

8 / 10Tesla Model 3: 221 kilometers.

The electric car pioneer has always placed more value on range than on fast charging, which is a conflict of goals when it comes to battery design.

The long-range version with an 82.1 kWh battery was tested on the brand's own superchargers.

Base price of the Model 3: 52,965 euros.

It takes longer to charge an electric car than to fill up a gas model with gas, and that will not change in the next few years.

It also takes some getting used to: After a very quick start of charging a direct current column with sometimes more than 300 kilowatts, the charging power is reduced further and further in order to protect the battery cells.

Most models therefore draw the most power in the first ten minutes of the charging process.

But how far can you get if you charge for exactly 20 minutes?

The P3 Group, a company for engineering services and technology consulting, among other things, has clarified these questions scientifically accurate.

For this purpose, 21 different car models in three classes with ten percent battery status started at DC columns with 350 kilowatts.

Among other things, the range (with consumption according to the ADAC Ecotest) was measured, which was added within the first 20 minutes.

All models in the top ten came from the luxury and middle class.

With the Kia EV6, the latter is the only electric vehicle that can be recharged for more than 300 kilometers in 20 minutes.

The best model in the compact class was the VW ID.3 with 153 kilometers.
