In the Czech Republic, the police confiscated a Ferrari from criminals.

Converted into a patrol car, it should now be used to hunt down traffic offenders.

Stuttgart/Prague - In Germany, too, there are always daring races on the autobahn.

High-performance models from Porsche, Mercedes-AMG, Ferrari and Lamborghini are particularly popular in such illegal competitions on public roads.

At the end of May, six men fought a forbidden race in sports cars on the B94 in the Emmendingen district.

If the police stop such speeders, the participants not only have to pay a fine, the vehicles can also be confiscated.

The same applies to the vehicle fleet of criminals, such as drug dealers.

In the Czech Republic, the police confiscated a Ferrari from criminals.

Instead of publicly scrapping the luxury sports car from Italy, as the authorities in the Philippines did with luxury cars from Mercedes and Porsche, the Czechs want to use the high-performance vehicle to chase down traffic offenders in the future.

For this purpose, the Ferrari was quickly converted into a patrol car, as can be seen in a video from the Czech police authority.

Confiscated Ferrari is said to be used as a patrol car against "aggressive drivers".

Precisely because traffic offenders often use particularly fast sports cars in illegal races, the authorities are not always able to keep up with them in their vehicles.

A Ferrari patrol car, however, offers completely different possibilities.

Ferrari is considered the epitome of powerful combustion engines, but wants to be ready for the e-car era by 2025.

According to the video, the Czech police invested almost 14,000 euros in the conversion of the Ferrari 458 Italia.

The sports car, which has a speed of around 325 kilometers per hour, is to be used against particularly “aggressive drivers” on the motorway, a spokesman said according to the

German Press Agency

(dpa) in Prague.

In the said video of the Czech authorities, the Ferrari converted into a patrol car is impressively staged.

However, only specially trained officers can enjoy what is probably the fastest police car in the fleet.

"We can also use the potential of the sports car when pursuing car thieves who cross our country fleeing to neighboring countries," said the chief of the Czech traffic police.

In the legal situation in Germany, a distinction must be made between confiscated and confiscated vehicles.

As confiscated objects, they become the property of the judiciary and, like the Ferrari in the Czech Republic, can also be used by the authorities for their own use.

Police Ferrari met with criticism online: "Completely impractical for the patrol car"

No one is surprised that the authorities in Europe repeatedly confiscate sports cars from traffic offenders or other law breakers or, in the worst case, confiscate them.

In Dresden, for example, the police towed away a golden Porsche because the paintwork was illegal.

A similar case occurred in Hamburg in 2019.

What is met with clear criticism online, however, is when the authorities themselves use the confiscated luxury cars and, as in the case in the Czech Republic, also invest tax money.

"Everyone has to save, except the police," complained one user.

"Completely impractical for patrol duty," noted another.
