According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI)

, the number of known

infections in Germany has increased by

121,780

to over 30.59 million.

That is 19,219 fewer cases within 24 hours than on Wednesday a week ago, when 140,999 infections were reported.

The

seven-day incidence

falls to

652.0

from 678.7 the previous day.

The RKI reports

181 more deaths

related to the corona virus.

The known total is 143,545.

Experts have been assuming for some time that there will be a large number of cases not recorded by the RKI - mainly because by far not all infected people have a PCR test done.

Only positive PCR tests count in the statistics.

In addition, late registrations or transmission problems can lead to the distortion of individual daily values.

Despite the interim decline, the focus is already on autumn.

Experiences over the past few years have led to fears of a significant increase in the number of cases with falling temperatures and more stays indoors.

Thuringia and Bavaria are increasing the pressure on the federal government when drafting a new infection protection law.

“The Federal Minister of Justice and the Federal Minister of Health have been documenting their different views in interviews for weeks.

I am now finally expecting a coordinated proposal as to what regulatory options the federal government wants to go into the autumn with," says Thuringia's Health Minister Heike Werner (left) of the "Rheinische Post".

The countries are aware that they have to adapt to different scenarios.

From the point of view of the Thuringian state government, the necessary measures should be based on comprehensible criteria such as the load on hospitals and intensive care units.

There is a need for an orderly procedure and a toolbox that the countries can choose from if necessary.

According to the Bavarian Ministry of Health, these tools include in particular the possibility of ordering a mask requirement indoors or the introduction of upper limits for persons, explains a spokeswoman for the ministry.

Hospital society wants to end compulsory vaccination

If necessary, the federal states should also be able to order mandatory testing for facilities with vulnerable people.

»The federal government has to pick up the pace so that we can act in good time.«

The German Hospital Society has spoken out in favor of lifting the vaccination requirement for nursing and healthcare staff.

"According to current knowledge, it is neither sensible nor communicable to continue it," said Deputy CEO Henriette Neumeyer of the editorial network Germany.

So far, the association had advocated facility-related compulsory vaccination.

In the delta wave, it was assumed that there would also be a high level of protection for the vulnerable groups in the hospital, said Neumeyer.

With the Omikron variant, that has become obsolete.

Politicians from the CDU and left had started a debate about phasing out compulsory vaccination at the end of the year.
