The E10 fuel has a big image problem.

Myths about poor quality or negative effects on the vehicle persist among motorists.

Anyone who has to fill up a car has often had trouble in recent weeks and months.

Fuel prices have exploded in phases.

It's a good thing that E10 is at least a little cheaper, because many want to save money when filling up.

Or?

More and more cars are marked so that they can be refueled with E10 fuel - however, there is a lot of half-knowledge about its quality.

Many car owners are afraid of filling up with "worse" petrol and damaging the car.

echo24.de

has dealt with the topic.

Is E10 worse petrol?

Many drivers prefer not to fill up with fuel

There are reasons to fill up with E10: It is cheaper and also better for the environment.

But: Many continue to fill up with “normal” E5 petrol.

A survey by the ADAC comes to the conclusion that this is also due to the fact that drivers do not deal enough with the E10 fuel or inform themselves enough.

Fact check: What is actually in E10?

The biofuel E10 consists of up to 10 percent ethanol and around 90 percent petrol, consisting of conventional oil.

The fuel Super, or E5, consists of up to 5 percent ethanol and about 95 percent "normal" oil.

The ethanol is obtained, for example, from plants such as barley, rye, corn or sugar cane and is therefore renewable.

Drivers have been able to fill up with E10 since 2011.

However, more than half of those involved in the ADAC survey stated that they were keeping their hands off it due to technical concerns.

"My car doesn't tolerate E10," stubbornly persists.

In most cases, however, this turns out to be wrong.

"According to ADAC, since November 2010 almost all vehicles have been able to use biofuel - cars and motorcycles.

But even with most older cars, the concerns are unfounded,” writes

Filling up with E10: These myths are circulating about the fuel

Anyone who is still skeptical can play it safe: the vehicle's operating instructions, the brochure from Deutsche Automobil Treuhand GmbH (DAT), the ADAC, the vehicle manufacturer itself or a professional workshop can provide reliable information.

"Filling up with E10 isn't worth it at all" - the aim is that although the petrol is cheaper, it means that fewer kilometers can be driven than with E5 petrol.

Jein: It is true that vehicles consume more E10 than E5 over the same distance.

But: We are talking about about one percent and not even that can be measured precisely, since too many factors play a role in this measurement.

Incidentally, the ADAC also writes: “Vehicles that are E10-compatible can be refueled alternately or as a mixture of E10 and E5 fuel.

This is without risk, there is no vehicle damage here

expected."
