Rina Mishleh breaks up in the last show of "Meet the Press" (News 12)

It is customary to look down on farewell celebrations for journalists on the screen or on the airwaves, as part of the general contempt for the inflated self-importance of journalists in the age of Twitter and in general.

It is not detached from reality.

Still, this past weekend, when many found themselves mourning the passing of veteran film critic Uri Klein, illustrated how present veteran journalists are sometimes in our lives.

You can disagree, you can even hate, but there are figures with whom even the quarrel with them over the years becomes a ritual, and they themselves become a collective spectacle that accompanies the developments in this country full of events week after week.

That means something.

I thought about this a lot in the last program of "Meet the Press", where Rina Mishleh, who will be distinguished for a long life, said goodbye to the program with which she was completely identified for the past nine years.

The veteran and determined achiever, the six Eli Karev in front of every interviewee, is one of the main shapers of the political media in Israel in the last decade, for better or for worse.

She has many rights and a glorious career.

On the other hand, she is also a character that arouses emotions, a person who boils right and leftists alike on a regular basis.

The fight with her also became a kind of ritual.

In a society that is indifferent to so many things, we must also appreciate a journalist who succeeds every week in arousing such feelings in so many people, and it is good that there is a moment that makes it possible to do that.

A few awkward moments could have been saved.

Although she is expected to remain on screen in editions and other current affairs programs, "Fender" has been her kingdom for almost a decade, so this is a dramatic event.

Therefore, even if it is not a complete retirement and there is no need for obituaries - the presenter's departure from the program is definitely a good opportunity to express appreciation and cherish gratitude.

The festival - including the multitude of congratulations from colleagues and politicians, guests who bring flowers, congratulatory videos and, of course, a closing speech - is completely justified, even if we could have been spared a few awkward moments.

When a veteran journalist leaves a show, it is customary to imagine the end of a respectable era that will never return, but after all the compliments, the truth that must be said is that the legacy that "Meet the Press" leaves behind at this point in time is far from that, and it is obvious what five election campaigns in three years have done to it: it is a legacy of Bad, gaudy TV, preoccupied with political gossip, rhetorical questions about the percentage of blocking, who will sit with whom and campaign messages and the ravings of strategic consultants, alongside incredibly superficial discussions of things of value.

It rewards provocateurs and serves the general noise.

It used to be a media flagship, but today it's another panel platform, which a significant part of the current affairs broadcasters look exactly like.

The flowers before the shouts.

The farewell program of Mishlekh illustrated this over and over again: for example in the MK panel on the status of women in politics - a certainly important topic - which slid incredibly quickly into the usual coalition-opposition fights and shouts, without any ability for the viewer to listen and follow what was being said; or for example in an interview with a MK Abir Kara, who is required to answer again and again whether his old-new party will complete a coalition for the Netanyahu bloc.

Cara resented that speculation was being talked about instead of ideology.

His twisting and evading her was embarrassing, but the bottom line is he is right: "Meet" is a cynical program that from the outset does not believe in the existence of ideology or essential issues other than who will sit with whom and in which constellation, so everything else is of no interest to her anyway.

At this stage of the political whirlwind, it is clear how empty of content and invalid these talks are.

You can get more than that.

As a television character, Succeed is so much more than that.

She is a sharp, poignant and sometimes funny commentator.

She is a huge asset to News 12, and her experience shines above the immaturity that sometimes characterizes young political reporters.

At her celebration yesterday there were also quite a few happy moments.

All the participants of the last program took the opportunity to congratulate Mashilh, some of them even brought flowers, one also read a poem.

It's safe to guess that appreciation for the presenter is the only thing ever agreed upon by all the "Meet the Press" contestants on a given show.

This is also a kind of title.
