What happened the night of July 17 to 18 in the expatriate district of Abidjan (Côte d'Ivoire)?
An investigation was opened in Paris after the shooting murder of a Frenchman in mid-July in Marcory in the south of the Ivorian capital, we learned this Wednesday from the Paris prosecutor's office.
“An investigation has been opened on the count of intentional homicide.
The investigations were entrusted to the Central Office for the Suppression of Violence against Persons (OCRVP),” the prosecution said.
The facts took place on the night of July 17 to 18, around one in the morning, according to a source familiar with the matter, confirming information from the local Ivorian press.
The victim, a 31-year-old man, was driving home with a friend after dinner, the source said.
He would have tried to protect his companion
He was getting out of the vehicle when two men shot him, stole his money and his phone, and fled, according to this source.
The person accompanying him was not hit by the shots.
According to the local press, the two friends first agreed, at gunpoint, to give their personal belongings to their attackers.
The latter would then have shot the victim after she refused to let them go up to her apartment where her companion was sleeping.
A request for international criminal assistance, "in progress", was transmitted to the Ivorian justice which also opened an investigation, according to this source.
According to the daily Le Télégramme, the victim, originally from Côtes-d'Armor (Brittany), worked for Bouygues Construction and arrived in Côte d'Ivoire in September 2018 as the main engineer on the Abidjan metro site.
He lived in the so-called "zone 4" district of the town of Marcory, where most expatriates gather, according to the regional daily.
