Loire-Atlantique firefighters are in mourning.
One of their own died "in service" on Friday during an "intervention for a field fire" announced the Departmental Fire and Rescue Service of Loire-Atlantique.
The 50-year-old man was head of the center of the Saint-Lyphard barracks, near Saint-Nazaire.
He would have suffered a heart attack during an intervention, according to Ouest-France.
Firefighters were called late Friday afternoon in Herbignac for a car fire that would have spread to a home, according to the newspaper.
Supported by his colleagues then by the Smur, the firefighter, whose vital prognosis was engaged, had been transported to the hospital of Saint-Nazaire.
He did not survive.
A committed man
Ouest-France paints the portrait of a man committed to serving others, whether with the firefighters he joined when he was 16 or in his professional career at the town hall of Guérande.
After a short stint with the Paris firefighters, he had risen through the ranks in his region of birth and had become center manager and recently volunteer referent for the western sector.
“It is a tragedy for the family, his friends and for all the firefighters of Loire-Atlantique, reacted Michel Ménard, president of the departmental council and president of the board of directors of Sdis.
A man who commits himself to the service of others, as all firefighters do, and dies in service, it is dramatic.

A year ago, the Loire-Atlantique firefighters had already lost one of their own.
On July 6, 2021, a 60-year-old volunteer firefighter disappeared at sea during an intervention exercise on a boat.
