Summer ice can currently occur on the motorway.
The police explain what this means and ask for caution.
The hot period in August has an impact on all of our lives: the rivers are low, the risk of heat exhaustion, the signs of which need to be recognized, is increasing and the heat in the car is often unbearable.
The heat can also become a hazard on freeways: drivers currently have to reckon with blow-ups, where the road simply bursts open.
But as
echo24.de
reports, there is another pitfall: summer ice.
Summer ice: heat causes dangerous phenomenon on the highway
Only at the end of July there were two traffic accidents on the A8, in which the police suspect that the trigger could have been summer ice.
Sounds strange, but it really exists and is not just a synonym for aquaplaning - although it has something to do with rain.
When there is black ice in the summer, a dangerous film lies on the road
With the persistent heat, we long for rain for nature, for the farmers and for our rivers, lakes and gardens.
But: After a long period of drought, precipitation also poses a risk on the road, which must be taken into account.
The
Günzburger Zeitung
also reports on the perils of summer ice: “During a dry period, dust, pollen and tire abrasion gradually settle on the road surface.
The onset of rain loosens these particles and forms a slippery lubricating film.
Tires lose grip when speeding, swerving and braking, and the driver loses control.”
It is therefore important to exercise particular caution, to keep your distance from the car in front and to adjust your speed so that there is still time to react in the event of unforeseen situations and black ice in the summer.
