The environmental or innovation bonus is reduced, but has been a complete success so far: buyers of electric cars collected 8.7 billion euros.

The funding is slowly running out: Anyone who still wants to get the full sum of up to 9,570 euros gross for their electric car has to hurry up.

The number of car models that could be registered as new cars this year (a prerequisite for the subsidy) is shrinking rapidly given the long delivery times.

From the VW group, for example, none are available anymore.

And next year the subsidy will decrease, for plug-in hybrids it will not apply at all.

After all, that's no reason for many prospective buyers to do without.

The environmental bonus is proving to be a successful model.

Nevertheless, whoever got the money should be happy.

And that was no small amount: Manufacturers and the state gave buyers of electrified cars a total of 8.7 billion euros.

Three billion came from the car companies, but the lion's share of 5.7 billion euros came from the state, ultimately the taxpayers.

Environment bonus gladly accepted: No data on resale abroad

The number comes from the federal government – in response to a small request from the AfD parliamentary group.

However, the government did not want to confirm their suspicion that a significant number of the subsidized vehicles would be moved abroad (as was possibly the case with Tesla models after the end of the holding period): Due to the lack of data, no further information could be given.
