It was quick: Instagram copies a competitor that threatens it
Meta is developing a new feature that copies BeReal, a social network that is very popular among Generation Z and jumped to the first place in the US app store. What is so special about it?

Does not take unnecessary risks: Meta continues to try to eliminate the competitors, and last night (Monday) a mobile developer named Alessandro Palozzi revealed hints that the company is developing a new feature that copies a prominent feature of a social network that is emerging in the US - BeReal.
The new feature is called " IG Candid Challenges", and basically once a day, at alternating hours, users are asked to share a picture of what they are doing, and they have only 2 minutes. The application uses the front and back camera at the same time, so you will see not only what the person is doing, but also where they are Found The time limit limits the user's ability to direct and edit images, keeping things more authentic.
As mentioned, this is a clone of BeReal, a French application that was first launched in 2020. The social network relies heavily on Generation Z in France, with more than 80% of its iPhone user base aged 16-24.
However, in the past year, BeReal has racked up more than 40 million downloads worldwide, with last summer jumping to number one on the Apple App Store in the US.

In recent years, Meta (Facebook) has been severely criticized for trying to eliminate its competitors.
In a hearing held at the subcommittee of the American Congress in 2020, it was claimed that the company identifies competitors that may pose a threat to it, then purchases them, copies them or kills them.
Also, last month the sisters Kim Kardashian and Kylie Jenner uploaded to their stories a post linking to a petition calling on Instagram to stop the frequent changes in the algorithm designed to fight Tiktok.
Later, following the criticism, Instagram CEO Adam Mosari said, "We will take a step back, but I'm glad we took a risk."
