Samsung is threatening to do to the professional SLR cameras what the smartphones did to the simple camera market.
According to a new report on the South Korean website ETNews, the Galaxy S23 Ultra, which will be announced in early 2023, will come with a 200-megapixel camera.
A photo sensor of 200 megapixels made by Samsung, ISOCELL HP1, has already been integrated into Motorola's new flagship device - the Motorola X30 Pr.
However, the Galaxy S23 Ultra will reportedly adopt a new and improved sensor that Samsung is currently developing and will be named ISOCELL HP2.
Despite the inflated number, it is important to remember that the name of the game is large sensors.
The larger the sensor and covers more of the exposure area coming from the lens, the better quality the images will be.
So what's the idea?
The thinking is simple: more pixels = more information absorbed, and an image that contains no less than 200 million pixels, is an image that contains a lot of information, so that you can enlarge, cut or process parts of it, without harming the quality.
And what happens to the competitors?
Last month, Xiaomi announced the next generation of its smartphones, the Xiaomi Mi 12S Ultra, which contains Sony's next 1-inch sensor.
It is not impossible that we will also see other large manufacturers such as Apple join what is becoming the new fashion in smartphones.
