Artificial Intelligence (Ai) has learned to play football: a group of researchers from the English company DeepMind of Google taught a group of animated players how to play a realistic version of football on a computer screen, without providing them with I anticipate the ground rules.

During the experiment, published in the journal Science Robotics, virtual footballers started from scratch, managing to improve only by watching videos of real players.

The results are impressive: the action looks like a computer game, but it is much more realistic because the players are able to make decisions for themselves.

The researchers, led by Siqi Liu, applied a new degree of AI programming and learning networks to teach simulated robots how to play football - the idea was for virtual players to learn to play the same way. of humans, that is, observing how others do it.

The AI really started from scratch: it initially had to learn to walk, run and kick a ball.

At each new level, videos of real-world footballers were shown, which allowed them to not only learn the basics of football, but also to mimic the way professional athletes move.

As the simulated robots learned how, they were played against each other, then added more players until they had two full teams.

The result is very realistic, but also simplified, as the authors of the study state: no fouls are whistled and there is an invisible border around the field, which prevents the balls from going out.

In addition, learning took a long time, which could prevent technology from advancing to real-world robots.
