The British scammer Robert Hendy-Freegard, who injured two gendarmes on August 25 when they refused to comply in the Creuse, was arrested Friday evening in Belgium, according to a source familiar with the matter at Le Parisien, confirming information from BFM TV.

It was the Ghent motorway police who arrested him, after checking his vehicle reported as wanted.

At the end of August, the gendarmes came to attend the veterinary check which took place at the home of the man and his wife, in Vidaillat (Creuse), in connection with a dog farm.

Not present at the start, Robert Hendy-Freegard had seen the police on his way home and fled by car, knocking down two gendarmes.

Investigation opened in France

Law enforcement quickly identified the suspect as Robert Hendy-Freegard, a well-known crook across the Channel for posing as an English secret service agent and defrauding several people.

His story was the subject of the Netflix documentary 'The Puppet Master'.

The identity of his wife also corresponds to that presented as the latest victim in the documentary series and sought by his children.
