Gaming Updates: You can relax, "Call of Duty" is still not abandoning Sony | Israel today

Reassuring news for PlayStation owners: "Call of Duty" games will continue to be released on Sony's console in the coming years and perhaps even beyond them, despite Microsoft planning to acquire the company Activision, which stands behind the successful action brand.

It turns out that Phil Spencer, the powerful man in Xbox who also trusts Microsoft's gaming division, committed earlier this year to Jim Ryan, the boss of PlayStation, that the "Call of Duty" titles will not suddenly disappear from Sony's platforms, despite the huge deal that will undoubtedly cause a revolution in the field of gaming.

On top of that, Spencer clarified that Microsoft will support Sony "for several more years, beyond Sony's existing contract with Activision", and emphasized that this is a generous gesture that is not typical for the gaming industry.

So what does that actually mean?

Although Spencer did not specify an exact number of years, if until recently we believed that the "Call of Duty" games would continue to be released on the PlayStation until 2024, at least 2025, now we are more inclined towards 2026, at least 2027.

But make no mistake, Microsoft is not buying Activision for $70 billion just to maintain the existing status quo.

Its ultimate goal is to make brands like "Call of Duty", "Diablo" and "Warcraft" exclusive to Xbox, because otherwise what's the point?

The next game in the series, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II, will be launched on October 28 for PlayStation, Xbox and PC.

The Chinese are invading France?

Is the Chinese gaming giant Tencent interested in acquiring the French gaming powerhouse Ubisoft?

It is still too early to determine, but one can certainly suspect that this is the direction.

This week it was reported that Tencent, which owns 46 percent of the video game market in China and about 10 percent of the world market, invested more than 300 million euros in Guillemot Bros., which is the controlling owner of Ubisoft.

Tencent now owns 49.9 percent of Guillemot Bros, and as a result also a significant percentage of Ubisoft, which is known to be responsible for such super brands as Assassin's Creed, Far Cry and Rayman.

Soon under new ownership?

However, Guilmot emphasizes that this is not a takeover, and that Tencent will not be able to increase its percentage of control in the company in the next eight years.

Well, what will happen next?

End of the game

About a year ago, it was reported that Bitdance, the developer of Tiktok, aspires to enter the gaming business and is investing huge sums to fulfill these ambitions.

No more.

The South China Morning Post newspaper, which is published in Hong Kong, publishes that the Chinese Bitdance is cutting hundreds of jobs in its offices in the cities of Shanghai and Hangzhou.

The common denominator for all these jobs: they all deal with gaming and assemble studios designed to develop new games for the platform.

Tried, not so successful.

In fact, Tik Tok is not the only social network that gives up on the field of gaming.

It was recently reported that Snapchat, which also laid off 20 percent of its total workforce, completely froze the operations of the Snap Games division, which the company announced with great fanfare in 2019.

The conclusion: maybe it's better to invest in the quality of the games, instead of bombarding dozens of mediocre and dull titles for smartphones, hoping that one of them might catch on.

They usually don't catch.
