Four upgraded iPhones, three new smart watches and AirPods Pro: the technology giant tonight held the first announcement event in a season full of surprises - and revealed new developments and products

Nice to meet you, the next generation:

Apple held a festive event tonight (Wednesday) under the title "Far out", and announced a series of new products, including four iPhones - iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max.

This time too, the event was conducted virtually and without an audience - similar to all its announcements since the outbreak of the Corona epidemic.

At the top of the list of innovations, as revealed by countless different reports around the web - the iPhone 14 series retains most of the design line of the previous generation - iPhone 13, but includes a significant change, in which the company further reduces the wide gap that takes up a large part of the upper part of the screen, and replaces it with a black bar with rounded edges at the top of the screen - for the Face ID array and the photo sensor.

In addition, Apple is leaving behind the mini model and upgrading the photography system.

The products revealed tonight are the opening shot in the fall season full of products, as the company is expected to hold another event next month - where it will announce new Mac computers and new iPad models.

Apple Watch Series 8

In a well-edited segment that looked slightly staged, Tim Cook presented at the beginning of the event thank you letters he received from customers around the world - about how an Apple Watch saved them in emergency situations - including a guy who received a visit from a bear.

In any case, the Apple Watch Series 8 retains the familiar design of the seventh generation (square with rounded corners), but includes some new and intriguing features.

The first is the measurement of the user's body temperature - Apple implemented two temperature sensors - which measure the body temperature every five seconds, and are accurate to the tenth of a degree.

Another new feature is the detection of a car accident: the accelerometer in the watch is able to detect the strong gravitational forces that are applied during an accident, including combining data to identify the type of accident: front, side, rear or rollover.

Alongside this, Apple will enable the sharing of results from the body temperature sensor, especially in the context of menstruation and ovulation but also in other health matters related to body temperature.

As far as battery life is concerned, Apple promises 18 hours of operation, even with all the sensors working.

Apple also adds a battery saving mode, similar to existing in other smart watches.

Apple Watch SE

For the first time since 2020, Apple announces a new discounted watch - Apple Watch SE.

It features three colors with a redesigned back (100% recycled aluminum), accident detection and access to emergency services.

Apple offers it as a device for children as a replacement for the iPhone (instead of carrying around a mobile device for hundreds of dollars), a 30% larger screen, and a sleep monitoring sensor.

Also, Apple promises that it is 20% faster than the previous generation.

Apple Watch Ultra

As the rumors predicted, Apple announced a rugged watch - Apple Watch Ultra.

The body of the watch is made of titanium, with a sapphire crystal glass that covers the screen, a brighter display than the usual models, an orange "action" button and a larger dial button that is adapted for use with gloves.

Also, there are three microphones, and an enlarged speaker next to an enlarged battery, with 36 hours of normal operation, and 60 hours of operation in economy mode.

"Inspired by explorers and athletes from around the world, we've created an entirely new category of Apple Watch designed for new and extreme environments — it's the toughest and most capable Apple Watch yet," said Jeff Williams, Apple's chief operating officer.

"Apple Watch Ultra is a versatile tool that allows users to push their limits with adventure, endurance and exploration."

And that's not all, Apple added a special mode for triathletes with battery saving, an emergency alarm that can be heard from tens of meters and a brightness of 200 nits - 2 times that of any Apple watch, and comes in one version that includes both GPS and cellular.

As for water resistance - the watch also supports divers up to 40 meters and meets the standards of diving watches.

However, it is extra thick (58mm).

AirPods Pro 2

As we expected: Apple announced the AirPods Pro 2. The headphones keep the familiar design (with a short stem) and a wide charging cover.

So what is new?

This time Apple integrated surround sound that is individually designed for each user using the H2 chip, external microphones, and a new processing that enables a new level of active noise cancellation.

In addition, Apple adds touch control, and six hours of operation for a single charging cycle (30 together with the carrier).

The ability to locate the charging cover has also been added, including a speaker at the bottom for locating.

iPhone 14 series

As expected, Apple organizes and separates from the "mini" model and presents four models: iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max.

Both tiers will have one 6.1-inch phone and the larger 6.7-inch phone.

The iPhone 14 will have the A15 processor, while the Pro models will have a new A16 processor, which Apple claims will eat up the competition while using less current.

While the base models - iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus - come with the same design as the previous generation with a wide notch, in the pro models Apple redesigned the notch and calls it "Dynamic Island", which is actually a secondary display inside the screen.

In addition, the pro models include an AlwaysOn display that will show notifications even when the screen is off.

For the first time (a blow to Google, which is also working on a similar solution, according to reports), Apple is adding satellite phone communication, directly from the iPhone itself.

Mainly intended for communication with emergency and rescue forces by text or call.

Later, the device will also support Find my Phone to allow family and friends to locate you, first in Canada and the USA.

The new camera system of the Pro models, based on a 48 megapixel main camera and a 12 megapixel wide lens, includes a RAW mode of 48 megapixels, and an image stabilization system for video is better than before (even the "regular" iPhone models have one).
