A fire broke out around midnight, on the night of Friday to Saturday September 10, in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin (Alpes-Maritimes).

The brush fire, fanned by a strong wind, burned 8 ha last night, in the Rocagel district.

The firefighters managed to fix it at the start of the morning, indicates BFMTV Côte d'Azur.

The occupants of four houses threatened by the flames had to be evacuated.

These eight people are housed in a gymnasium made available by the town hall, reports the local channel, which specifies that an equestrian center is also being evacuated.

Some 150 firefighters are mobilized to try to put an end to this fire.

Record fires this summer

France has been affected in recent weeks by record forest fires, linked to heat waves in the summer.

Regions usually spared have been affected, such as the mythical Breton forest of Brocéliande in the west of the country.

More broadly, the 27 countries of the European Union set a record in mid-August since the start of satellite data in 2006, with more than 660,000 ha burned.
