The American band "Counting Cruises" is expected to perform on Wednesday at the Ra'anana Amphitheater, and just before that, its members jumped into the Walla! studio.

They did an acoustic performance of three wonderful songs - Elevator Boots (watch above), Mr.

Jones (watch here later) and If I Could Give All My Love (watch here later) - and the band's vocalist Adam Duritz was interviewed and talked about his Judaism, the music that saved his life and his night out at the "Fort Said" bar in Tel Aviv.

Watch here an interview with Adam Duritz, lead singer of Counting Cruises:

Adam, as a Jew - how significant is it for you to appear in the Holy Land?

"I'm excited. I haven't been here for 40 years, since I was a child. Obviously I'm happy to come back to perform here."

Was there any pressure on them not to perform in Israel?

"No. The question only comes up in interviews with Israeli reporters. There were no pressures that I know of, but I'm either on tour or at home, so I've been out a lot lately. Maybe someone is angry, I don't know."

Did you ever think that your "Sha La La La La" from the hit "Mr. Jones" would make history and have such an impact?

"No. Honestly, I think we all thought it was a really good song, but you never know what's going to be a hit and none of us thought that 'Mr.

Jones" would be a hit. We thought "Rain King" would be a hit. We didn't think "Mr.

Jones" will be the song that introduces us. It surprised me."

"(Laughs) Oh, the success went to my head. I'm not grounded at all. I'm crazy. I'm a huge rockstar,

and I'm enjoying it! I wish I was an even bigger rockstar. I like being huge."

Your cover version of Joni Mitchell's hit "Big Yellow Taxi" will soon celebrate 20 years.

NME and other papers included this song as one of the worst covers of the 2000s.

Are you offended by this?

"No. Joni Mitchell loved it. Before we put the record out, we were mixing and Joni came to the studio. Our producer played the song for Joni, and she was blown away by it. Then she asked me if I wanted to come down the hall to hear Her work on the album "Travelogue". I came, sat next to her, heard a song,

and loved it. She asked: Do you want to hear more? Until she and I spent the rest of the afternoon. A few hours when we sat in the room, just me and her, listening to The different songs she worked on. It was the greatest day. It was one of the best days of my life. When Joni Mitchell loves your cover version, it's hard to be too bothered by some journalist."

In the Netflix series "Stranger Things", Kate Bush's song saved one of the characters, Max's life.

What song saved your life?

"Probably the same song by Kate Bush. I really like Kate Bush. The truth is that my life was not saved by a specific song, but let's face it - music in general saved my life."

how?

in what way?

"As a child I was obsessed with music, I really wanted to listen to music all day. I remember standing in front of the mirror when I was five years old, with the tennis racket, pretending to be Paul McCartney and singing 'Can't Buy Me Love'. Then I realized he was left-handed and he actually played Bass. I was obsessed from a young age, and I also wondered what I would do with my life. I had a lot of mental problems. I didn't know how to take care of myself, and music took care of all that. I'm 30 years into my career, and it's been pretty great."

So music did save your life.

"Yes, she is everything to me."

In the previous decade, there was a period of five years when you didn't write songs.

Is there a reason for this?

"I just know that every time I start writing, I immediately want to record, and then I want to release an album. There was a stage where I wasn't sure if I knew how to make albums. I wanted to try to decipher it. It's hard, there's a new world now, albums need to be promoted in different ways and I wasn't sure we knew how to do it. So I wanted to put it aside for a while, until I figured it out. I don't think we figured it out, but

I couldn't stop myself from writing."

How is your stay in Israel so far?

"I mostly do interviews for radio and websites. I landed at five in the morning, arrived at the hotel at six thirty, and at seven thirty I was on my way to the radio station. I did interviews yesterday afternoon, and now I'm here. And I ate at Port Said and it was fantastic, amazing. Maybe tonight I'll go to the beer. I I'm constantly being interviewed, so I don't have any free time."

I heard you ate falafel.

"Yes, I ate falafel yesterday. And hummus today."
