The number of abortions in Germany also increased in the second quarter of this year.
Around 25,600 abortions were reported between April and June - 11.5 percent more than in the same period last year, as the Federal Statistical Office announced on Tuesday in Wiesbaden.
In the first three months of 2022, abortions rose by 4.8 percent - after falling by minus 5.4 percent in 2021 and by minus 0.9 percent in 2020.
The statisticians cannot say whether and how this development is related to the course of the corona pandemic.
More than two-thirds of the women (69.8 percent) who had abortions in the second quarter were between the ages of 18 and 34.
18.8 percent were between 35 and 39 years old.
8.7 percent of the women were 40 years and older, 2.6 percent were still minors.
Around 42 percent of the women had not yet given birth to a child before the abortion.
