According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI),
the number of known cases of
infection in Germany has increased by
54,930 cases
to over 32.5 million within a day.
That is 5,221 more cases than Tuesday last week, when 49,709 cases were reported.
The
seven-day incidence
is
229.9
(219.1 last Tuesday).
In general, this information only provides a very incomplete picture of the number of infections.
Experts have been assuming for some time that there will be a large number of cases not recorded by the RKI - mainly because by far not all infected people have a PCR test done.
Only positive PCR tests count in the statistics.
In addition, late registrations or transmission problems can lead to the distortion of individual daily values.
The RKI records
90 more deaths
related to the corona virus, nine fewer cases than a week ago.
The known total is 148,389.
Here, too, comparisons of the data are only possible to a limited extent due to the test behavior, late registrations and transmission problems.
In general, the number of registered new infections and deaths varies significantly from weekday to weekday, since many federal states do not transmit them to the RKI, especially at weekends, and report their cases later in the week.
Despite the now comparatively low daily values, there is still a focus on the vaccination campaigns.
The European Commission has approved another vaccine adapted to Omikron.
Broader protection against different corona variants
The booster from Biontech/Pfizer is aimed at the current corona variant, President Ursula von der Leyen said on Twitter on Monday.
A committee of experts from the EU medicines agency EMA had previously recommended the approval of the vaccine adapted to the Omicron sub-lines BA.4/BA.5.
Like the previous vaccines, the agent also targets the original variant of Sars-CoV-2.
Federal Minister of Health Karl Lauterbach (SPD) rated the message on Twitter as good in the fight against the virus.
The EMA announced that broader protection against different corona variants is expected.
The vaccination is recommended for people aged 12 and over as a booster.
BA.4/BA.5 are the omicron sublines that currently cause almost all corona infections in Germany according to data from random samples.
Due to the topicality, there are no completed clinical studies for the BA.4/BA.5 vaccine.
As the EMA explained, the expert committee took into account all available data - for example also on the adapted vaccine recently approved in the EU, which also targets the omicron subline BA.1.
Clinical data exist for him.
The delivery of this BA.1 vaccine started in Germany a few days ago.
