An Iranian hacker group, known as
war__dark
, claims to have managed to break into a database containing about 9.5 million records of Israeli residents.
To prove their credibility, the attackers released partial information of 8,300 records - containing names such as Binyamin Netanyahu and Yair Lapid.
Among the fields in the leaked information - ID card issuance date, right to vote, ID number, first name and last name.
On the Telegram page where the information was distributed it is written: "
Although they promised that the biometric is protected... as you can see it is not
".
On the other hand, the information of the government officials shows the same issue date, which damages the credibility of the released information.
"Intrusions into databases in the past resulted in huge databases of Israeli citizens being found all over the web (mainly the dark web), with many details that they left on the same sites or companies that were hacked. This means that this information is "out there", passes between hackers and serves as a basis for other attacks. Information One attack is the basis for the next," says the Israeli cyber security company Check Point.
"However, these are also databases that can be "recycled", so the hackers present this as new information even though in practice it is not. The fact that the issuance dates here are repeated, and the choice of the names of well-known people in Israel, actually harms the credibility of the publication. At the same time, it is impossible To ignore the fact that there has recently been a significant increase in the attacks of various groups, ideologically biased (supporting the Palestinians or the Iranians) who take down Israeli websites, sometimes also infiltrate databases as we saw last week, and publish the findings publicly," Check Point added.

"In recent years, we have experienced multiple leaks, apparently including the Elector reservoir, the old and well-known Agron, and many others. I assume that this is not a new leak and the data presented is a collection of several leaks. The attempt to instill fear among the public is nothing more than an act of psychological warfare," says Tom Malka , cyber threat intelligence researcher, in a conversation with Walla!
technology.
"As such groups arise, so they disappear (for example, "The Generous Thief")".
