According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI),
the number of known cases of
infection in Germany has increased by
51,299
cases to over 32.55 million within a day.
That is 4,804 more cases than on Wednesday last week, when 46,495 cases were reported.
The
seven-day incidence
rises to
236.2
from 229.9 the previous day.
The RKI records
109 more deaths
related to the corona virus.
The known total is 148,498.
In general, this information only provides a very incomplete picture of the number of infections.
Experts have been assuming for some time that there will be a large number of cases not recorded by the RKI - mainly because by far not all infected people have a PCR test done.
Only positive PCR tests count in the statistics.
In addition, late registrations or transmission problems can lead to the distortion of individual daily values.
Comparisons of the data are also only possible to a limited extent due to the test behavior, late registrations and transmission problems.
In general, the number of registered new infections and deaths varies significantly from weekday to weekday, since many federal states do not transmit them to the RKI, especially at weekends, and report their cases later in the week.
Federal Minister of Health Karl Lauterbach expects corona vaccinations to start quickly with the approved new preparation, which is adapted to virus variant BA.5.
“We will probably make the vaccine available as early as next week,” said the SPD politician on Tuesday during a visit to Israel.
Millions of doses of the new substance on the way
The first doses of the vaccine from Biontech are to be delivered to pharmaceutical wholesalers next Monday and Tuesday (September 19/20), according to a letter from Lauterbach to all service providers of the vaccination campaign, such as doctors.
According to this, Germany should initially receive around 19 million cans by October 3rd.
Exact delivery schedules are still to be coordinated.
"I'm glad that this vaccine has now been approved as expected," said Lauterbach.
"So we have two very good adapted vaccines that we can offer and will therefore be able to vaccinate everyone who wants to be vaccinated in the next few weeks."
On Monday, the European Commission approved the other vaccine from the manufacturers Biontech and Pfizer, which is adapted to the Omicron sub-lines BA.4 and BA.5.
The vaccination is recommended for people over the age of twelve as a booster, said the EU medicines authority EMA.
A new vaccine adapted to variant BA.1 was recently approved.
