Montaigne proposes a philosophy of existence and better health by proposing to act on two essential levers: beliefs and behaviors.
This is exactly what we do in medicine and psychiatry.
Acting on beliefs is the basis of behavioral therapies.
As Epictetus wrote,
“Men are not tormented by the events they experience but by the opinion they have of them”.
Finding good habits and good behaviors is the other basis of health.
