(ANSA) - ROME, SEPTEMBER 19 - Valery Polyakov, the cosmonaut who holds the world record for staying in space in a single flight, has died: Meduza and Tass report it, citing the Russian space agency Roscosmos.
Polyakov was 80 years old.
Trail 1994 and 1995 spent 437 days and 18 hours on the Mir orbiting station.
"Roscosmos announces with pain the death of Valery Polyakov, hero of the Soviet Union, hero of Russia, cosmonaut pilot of the USSR, holder of the world record for the longest flight in space (437 days)", reads the message of the space agency Russian according to the Tass.
