Kim, 24, died alone, far from her family, in a hospital in Luanda, the capital of Angola.

In June 2021, the young woman, passionate about international relations, died of severe malaria while she was attached to the French Embassy in Luanda.

Since then, her parents, Christel and François Lavaud, and her sister Lisa have been fighting for recognition of a fault on the part of the State and of the dysfunctions within the embassy in the management of the affection of the young woman, who breathed her last in an Angolan clinic, without having been evacuated or having received the necessary care.

On July 29, a judicial investigation against X was opened by the Montpellier prosecutor's office (Hérault) for manslaughter.

An investigating judge has been appointed.

“We can only go through the justice system to get answers”, confide Christel and François Lavaud to us.

“We are happy, relieved and content that a year of effort is finally coming to an end.

We held on, despite people telling us to move on.

It won't make us come back, but we're happy with this step, ”say the parents of the young adventurer who, with Lisa, are taking care of their grief as best they can.

"The truth is like a puzzle, rejoices Me Mikael D'Alimonte, who represents the interests of Kim's family, everyone has a piece and the opening of a judicial investigation will bring them all together".
