Tarbes: the police discover a mummified corpse while looking for a calf that escaped from a slaughterhouse

During the night from Monday to Tuesday, the police of Tarbes, in the Hautes-Pyrénées, discovered a corpse in a state of mummification near the hospital of the city, while they were looking for a calf which had escaped from the slaughterhouse, AFP learned from concordant sources.

According to a source close to the investigation, the body was lying on the bank of the Gespe river, between the hospital car park and a laundry.

According to this same source, it is at this stage impossible to determine whether it is that of a man or a woman.

A few hours earlier, a calf had "jumped the fence of the slaughterhouse" and the police had started after it to prevent it from causing a traffic accident, said the owner of the animal. who participated in the research.

An autopsy performed at the end of the week

Seen on the Tarbes ring road around 1 a.m., the calf “left in the direction of the laundry, entered a thicket where it fell into a sort of small ravine full of brambles (…) It was there that the police found a corpse,” he added.

The animal was only caught in the early morning and finally released to its mother, according to the breeder.

Regarding the macabre discovery made near the Tarbes hospital, a judicial inquiry has been opened and the autopsy of the body must be performed at the end of the week at the Toulouse forensic institute, according to the source close to the investigation.
