According to Radio Canada, who attended the hearing, the young man, aged 21 in 2020, confessed to his crime in a video shot at GoPro.

After killing his mother, he covered the body then placed candles around it and hung a rosary on the piano, writes the radio.

Then he drove off in his weapon-laden car intending to drive to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's home to shoot him.

Stopping on the way, he then considered committing a mass shooting of students at his university in Vancouver, before finally surrendering to the police.

A deteriorated psychiatric state

According to the Canadian judge's decision, Ryan Grantham had seen his mental health deteriorate in the months preceding his crime: cannabis use, violent videos on the dark web and suicidal or murderous thoughts were part of his daily life.
