At the end of the 19th century, this French doctor, then a thesis student on the effects of mold on bacteria, discovered the existence of antibiotics… thirty-one years before Alexander Fleming, the British doctor who “officially” discovered penicillin.
Ironically, Duchesne died at age 37, possibly of tuberculosis.
