Citroën has revised its logo for the tenth time and is focusing on the retro look.

However, the emblem is not well received on social networks.

There are numerous iconic logos in the automotive industry, such as the four rings of Audi, the Opel lightning bolt and the Mercedes star.

They make it unmistakably clear to the viewer which brand they are dealing with.

Every now and then a fresh coat of paint is due.

Citroën thought so too and developed a new edition of the trademark.

It is only the tenth further development of the logo conceived by André Citroën in 1919.

The new version with a retro look is also based on this, which will be seen for the first time “at the end of September on a new concept vehicle from the Citroën family”.

The new logo will then be used in several versions on series and concept vehicles by the middle of next year.

This follows the example of BMW, where a new emblem was also presented for some cars.

The double angle is straighter again and comes without 3D effects.

Like the original logo from 1919, it is surrounded by a vertical oval frame that creates the retro look.

In addition, the French automaker is working on a new design language to make the emblem more visible.

This should make it clear at first glance that it is a Citroën.

But Citroën does not only rely on the retro look for the logo.

The shade of Monte Carlo blue, familiar from iconic cars such as the 2CV and DS, is also making a return – as a body color and part of the brand identity for companies and retailers.

The red tint in physical, printed and digital applications is replaced by infra-red.

Citroën presents new logo with a retro look: necessary because of electric cars

In addition to the new logo with a retro look, Citroën is also introducing a new brand claim: "Nothing Moves Us Like Citroën".

The adjustments are also necessary because of the transition to electric cars and should lead the automaker into “probably the most exciting chapter” in its history, said Citroën boss Vincent Cobée.

He described the new retro look as an "elegant symbol of progress".

An opinion that is not only shared in social networks.

Citroën's new retro logo is not well received, especially on Facebook.

There is also a lot of malice on Instagram, but some users like the new look.

  • "Sorry, but that's totally wrong!

But it fits in with the uniformity that has now found its way into Citroën.”

  • "What shoud that?

If you run out of ideas, do you change the logo?”

  • "Oof, that reminds me of a badge on a pseudo-uniform."

  • "Welcome to 1919."

  • "Looks like an Easter egg."

  • "I like it, I think the symbiosis is successful."
