The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) gave the nationwide seven-day incidence on Wednesday morning as 379.6.

This is evident from numbers that reflect the status of the RKI dashboard at 5 a.m.

The day before, the value of new corona infections per 100,000 inhabitants and week was 334.9 (previous week: 264.6; previous month: 248.5).

However, this information only provides a very incomplete picture of the number of infections.

Experts have been assuming for some time that there will be a large number of cases not recorded by the RKI - mainly because by far not all infected people have a PCR test done.

Only positive PCR tests count in the statistics.

In addition, late registrations or transmission problems can lead to a distortion of individual daily values.

Incidence in Bavaria passes the 500 mark

The health authorities in Germany recently reported 95,811 new corona infections (previous week: 56,715) and 138 deaths (previous week: 90) to the RKI within one day.

Here, too, comparisons of the data are only possible to a limited extent due to the test behavior, late registrations or transmission problems.

In general, the number of registered new infections and deaths varies significantly from weekday to weekday, since many federal states do not transmit them to the RKI, especially at weekends, and report their cases later in the week.

The corona numbers are also increasing in Bavaria.

A good week and a half after the start of the Oktoberfest, the seven-day incidence has passed the 500 mark both in the city of Munich and in the Free State in general, according to figures reported by the RKI on Wednesday morning.

For Bavaria as a whole, the value of 503.2 means an increase of a good 67 percent compared to the value a week ago.

In Munich, it has more than doubled to 547 during this period.

A connection between the particularly strong increase in Munich and the Oktoberfest can hardly be proven at the moment, but it is obvious: there was often a sharp increase in the incidences at other folk festivals about a week and a half after the start.

Often these were then increased for a good week.

Experts had also predicted a »Wiesn wave« in the run-up to the Oktoberfest.

With its high incidence, Munich is currently not alone in Bavaria.

A total of 40 districts and urban districts now have values over 500.

The incidence is highest in the district of Eichstätt with 887.5 and in the district and urban district of Rosenheim with 866.1 and 814.1 respectively.

These are also the highest values nationwide.

Bavaria as a whole has the second highest incidence in Germany after Saarland.
