Who would not want a coupe with a lowered suspension, the road holding of a real sports car, exhilarating performance and at the same time the comfort of a sedan and the load capacity of a family?

They thought about it at BMW with the new 4 Series Gran Coupé.

4.783 meters long (2 centimeters longer than the coupe), 1.85 meters wide, 1.42 meters high (+4), with a wheelbase of 2.85 meters, the new four-door coupe has a trunk with an automatic tailgate really large that offers 470 liters of space that can be expanded up to 1,290 liters by reclining all sections of the rear backrest (40:20:40).

The 2,856mm wheelbase is 46mm longer than the previous one and 5mm longer than that of the 3 Series Sedan.

This specific body design results in larger interior spaces,

We were able to appreciate all these characteristics by trying the 430i Gran Coupé version equipped with a new four-cylinder petrol engine with 48 Volt mild hybrid system that develops 180 kW / 245 hp and is equipped with an exhaust manifold integrated into the cylinder head to reduce further emissions (combined fuel consumption: 7.6 - 6.8 l / 100 km (37.2 - 41.5 mpg imp) in WLTP; combined CO2 emissions: 173 - 156 g / km in WLTP).

The gearbox, on the other hand, is the tried and tested eight-speed Steptronic.

The sporting characteristics of the new BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé are combined with a low center of gravity and a weight distribution of almost 50:50.

A clever mix of materials was employed to optimize body weight and chassis technology.

And the bespoke body pillars in the front and rear axle area give the car agility and driving precision.

Precise lines, doors with frameless windows, recessed handles and powerful shoulders shape the elegantly sporty silhouette of the new BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé, while the roofline culminates in a pronounced spoiler on the tailgate.

Silence, softness and comfort welcome the driver and put him at ease from the first kilometers and even on the motorway you travel without noise with a thread of gas, assisted by the numerous driving assistance systems.

In short, the 4 Series Gran Coupé plays at being a sedan, but in the most casual driving it lets itself be driven with a decidedly cheerful attitude.

The interior of the new 4 Series Gran Coupé is dominated by the design of the center console which houses a control panel where the Start / Stop button, the BMW Controller, the Driving Experience Control, the electromechanical parking brake and the gear selector are gathered. .

Approximately 40 assistance functions are available as standard or optional for the new BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé, enabling comfortable and safe driving and parking.

Highlights include Active Cruise Control with automatic Speed Limit Assist, route monitoring and traffic light recognition (in Germany), as well as the Steering and Lane Control Assistant.

The standard equipment includes the front anti-collision system, Speed Limit Info, Lane Departure Warning, Park Distance Control,

Reversing Assist Camera and the Parking Assistant with Reversing Assistant.

The Parking Assistant Plus with Surround View and Remote 3D View is available as an option.

The standard BMW Live Cockpit Plus includes the iDrive operating system with 8.8-inch control display and a 5.1-inch color display in the instrument cluster.

The optional BMW Live Cockpit Professional features a fully digital display cluster that includes a high-resolution instrument cluster with a 12.3-inch diagonal behind the steering wheel and a 10.25-inch control display.

With the integration of the standard smartphone, customers can use Apple CarPlay and Android Auto through the car's operating system.

And Remote Software Upgrades improve vehicle functions and additional digital services to be installed in the vehicle remotely (over-the-air).

In the driver's seat we find a large head-up display with all the main functions.

During our test the engine was always ready: at any speed and with any gear engaged, the pick-up is always good, but not exaggerated, with a consistent extension.

Consumption was also more than satisfactory: around 12 km / l in the city.

Along the extra-urban roads we have maintained a consumption of about 13.5 km / l while on the motorway we have traveled about 15 km with a liter.
