Nintendo posted the first trailer for the upcoming animated film »The Super Mario Bros. Movie« on Thursday evening.
Running approximately two minutes and 20 seconds, the clip gives a first glimpse of what popular video game characters like Mario, Luigi, Toad and Bowser will soon look like on cinema screens.
The trailer reveals little about the story of the film, but it seems that the producers have oriented themselves to the stories of the classic "Super Mario" games.
The villain Bowser is causing chaos with his Koopa army and the brothers Mario and Luigi are trying to stop it.
When it comes to character design, the creators also do without big surprises: Mario appears as usual with a mustache, red cap and blue dungarees.
In numerous comments on YouTube and Twitter, fans especially praise the look of the film.
"The combination of Super Mario and Illumination is very promising," says YouTube, for example.
The animation studio Illumination produced the film and was already responsible for blockbusters like "Despicable Me" or "Minions - In Search of the Mini Boss".
However, the choice of dubbing actors causes discussions among the fans.
While actor Jack Black, who voices Bowser in the English original, has received a lot of praise, some users have expressed dissatisfaction with Chris Pratt's voice for the main character Mario.
The reason: In the video games, Mario has a clearly audible Italian accent, which is missing in the trailer.
For example, Twitter user @Weebot says: »Yes, as expected.
Chris Pratt as Mario doesn't sound good at all.« The plumber's accent is also missing in the German version of the trailer, in which Pratt's usual German speaker Leonhard Mahlich sets Mario to music.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie is the third film adaptation of the series, following a 1986 anime film and the 1993 live-action Super Mario Bros. Movie April 2023 in cinemas.
