The British-American actress Angela Lansbury passed away at the age of 96. Lansbury participated in dozens of films, plays and television series during a rich and long career that lasted about seven decades.
During her career, Lansbury won five Tony Awards and six Golden Globe Awards.
She was nominated for 18 Emmy Awards and three Academy Awards.
In 2013 she won an honorary Oscar.
Lansbury's children released a statement that read: "We are forced to announce with pain that our mother passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home in Los Angeles, just days before her 97th birthday."
It was also reported that her funeral ceremony will be held in the family setting.
The first film in which Lansbury participated was "Gas Lights" released in 1944 and thanks to it she was nominated for an Oscar for the best supporting actress.
She was also nominated for an Oscar for the films "The Picture of Dorian Gray" from 1945 and "The Messenger from Manchuria" (1962).
In addition, she played in "The Flying Bed", "Death on the Nile" and also voiced Mrs. Theon in Disney's "Beauty and the Beast".
Between 1984 and 1996 she played in the successful television series "Murder with a Quill", where she played Jessica Fletcher.
For this role she won the Golden Globe Award four times.
