Ford discontinues Fiesta – car company relies on electric SUVs

In the future, electric cars and SUVs will dominate the model range.
It was one of the most popular cars in Europe, often topping the sales charts.
It was also a bestseller in the Volkswagen Reich of Germany.
But now his time is up: In June next year, production of the Ford Fiesta in Cologne will be discontinued.

With 18.2 million units built, the small car has become a classic in the automotive industry since 1978 - one of the few that is still available as a new car in its eighth generation.
But he apparently no longer fits into the European future plans of the global car company based in the USA.

In the future, only electric cars, primarily SUVs, will roll out of the German main plant in Cologne.
"Ford will go all in on electromobility at an accelerated rate," said a spokesman.
Three new battery cars and four commercial vehicles are planned by 2024.

However, there are no plans for a complete conversion to electric drive, as is the case with Audi; cars with combustion engines will also continue to be available from Ford for the time being.
