The Italian start-up Aehra presents its electric SUV: The spectacular look comes from the former Lamborghini chief designer.

The Audi e-tron GT and hypercars à la Pininfarina Battista prove that electrically powered cars are not only more climate-friendly, but also faster and sportier than combustion engines.

It is all the more astonishing that the classic Italian sports car brands Ferrari and Lamborghini are delaying offering electric vehicles for as long as possible.

The Italo brands, known for their V8 and V12 cars, apparently fear that their customers will miss features such as combustion engine sound and mechanical transmission, whether in coupés or SUVs.

Hazim Nada, CEO of Aehra, does not accept such arguments: "Emotion is important, but it can also be defined by driving characteristics and design." His automotive start-up from Milan wants to close the gap between Italian sporty electric cars - with a spectacular SUV, scheduled to hit the streets of the world in 2025, and a sports sedan a little later.

Electric firecracker from Italy: The Aehra SUV should look futuristic

The five-seater, previously known as the Aehra SUV, with gullwing doors that swing upwards, is an eye-catcher. Former Lamborghini chief designer Filippo Perini is responsible for the visual appearance.

He says: "We have said goodbye to conservative constraints that have hitherto hindered many other automobile manufacturers in the development of electric vehicles." So if it's a modern form of drive, then please also with a futuristic look.

In fact, the 5.10 meter long carbon monocoque body with its short overhangs looks like a mixture of super sports car and practical crossover.

The Aehra people promise a lush, comfortable interior on a wheelbase of 3.07 meters - combined with outstanding driving performance from at least 750 hp with a weight of two tons.

The developers are also aiming for a range of 800 kilometers.

Nada is not yet revealing which suppliers, for example for the two engines, are to help with the realization of these impressive technical data.

In any case, his plans are quite optimistic: He would like to have 25,000 SUVs produced by a contract manufacturer and sell them online for around 160,000 euros - and as many technically identical sports sedans.
